Nordic House in the Faroe Islands celebrates 40 years on May 8 this year. The house is the largest cultural producer in the Faroe Islands and plays an important role both in the cultural life of the Faroe Islands and for Nordic cultural cooperation in general.

Program

09:00 – 12:00. Introductory lecture about the Faroe Islands’ history, culture and building customs and about how the house is used today. The architects from Norway, Ola Steen and Kolbrún Ragnarsdóttir, who won the competition in 1977, will contribute with some introductory comments.

12:00 – 13:00 Lunch.

13:00 – 17:00 Short comments about the house, by architects from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. All the architect organizations from these countries have reported that they would very much like to participate in the symposium.

Accommodation and prices

We have reserved hotel rooms in two hotels. Hotel Hafnia in the town center, two kilometers up to the Nordic House and Hotel Brandan just 800 meters form the Nordic House. Good bus connections to and from both hotels. Prices The participants plan and pay for their own trips to and from Torshavn. The prices include two hotel nights, venue hire, food, and other costs for the event, including travel and accommodation from the Nordic architects invited for their comments of the building.

There are four different prices depending on which hotel you stay at and whether it is a single or double room. Prices in Danish kroner, DKK. Hotel Hafnia; Single room: 5550 DKK, Double room: 4600 DKK. Hotel Brandan; Single room: 5250 DKK, Double room: DKK 4450. Price for participants excepted is set at DKK 2,700. The number of participants who need a hotel room is limited to 40 people. It is important to show interest and register early to secure a place and priority for a hotel, single or double room. Register your interest with hotel preference before 22 March. 50% is paid upon final registration before 1 June. After 1 June there will be no refunding. The total amount of money must be paid by 15 August.

For those interested a four-hour tour with an English-speaking interpreter is planned, on Thursday 19 September, at 10 am to 2 pm. Price around DKK 300 with a visit to historic Kirkjubøur and to Tinganes and modern architecture in the center of Torshavn. As the participants plan and pay for their own trips to and from Torshavn, opportunities are given to take a few extra days in the Faroe Islands.
