Beijing will host the 30th UIA World Congress of Architects in 2029, and the competition is conceived as a pilot project leading up to the event. It invites young architects worldwide to design a 200 m² urban pavilion that serves as both a public resting place and a showcase for the 2029 Congress, located within a 41,830 m² linear waterfront landscape along the Yong Ding River in Beijing.
Endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA), the competition is organised by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, co-organised by the Beijing Institute of Architects, with the Architectural Society of China serving as the advisory institution.
The project calls for an integrated architectural and landscape proposal addressing ecological resilience, heritage activation, public-space connectivity, low-carbon design and reversible construction.
