New member service: Competence Register for SAFA Architects

SAFA architects are qualified to serve as building designers for projects in the standard level throughout Finland. Permission to publish one’s name in the Competence Register can be granted via the mobile membership card.

The SAFA Competence Register has been published on the SAFA website.

The register contains the names of those members who have given permission for their information to be published.

Full members of SAFA are automatically awarded the certificate of regular level of competence for building designers. Certification is granted upon acceptance as a member.

Building authorities, for example, can search the Competence Register for SAFA architects by name or location.

Who is listed in the SAFA Competence Register?

All full members of SAFA are qualified to serve as building designers in the standard level of competence throughout Finland. The register contains SAFA architecs who have given permission for their information to be published.

I am a member of SAFA. How can I have my name listed in the SAFA Competence Register?

You can give permission for publication via the mobile membership card: Muokkaa tietojasi (Edit your information) > Jäsenyys (Membership) > Nimeni ja asuinpaikkakuntani saa julkaista SAFAn pätevyysrekisterissä (I consent to the publication of my name and place of residence in the SAFA Competence Register).

If you wish, you may also give permission for your email address to be published. Member information is not published in the register without their explicit consent.

If you are a student member, you will be listed for standard level of competence upon applying for full membership after graduation. After that, you will also be able to join the Competence Register.

What does regular competence mean?

Persons proposed as designers and supervisors required by the building permit must hold a certificate of competence. The levels of competence for design and supervision duties are: low, standard, advanced, highly advanced and exceptionally advanced.

The levels of competence are based on considerations such as the architectural and technical requirements of the construction project; the intended use of the building; and the requirements imposed by the building site and construction conditions.

How long is the certification effective?

The certification expires when SAFA membership ends.

What certifications does SAFA grant?

SAFA grants its full members the standard level of competence required of building designers and, as an agency authorised by the Ministry of the Environment, verifies the equivalence of foreign qualifications. Read more.
